Studio A
During this live broadcast of Studio A from New York City, host Danielle Smith sits down with writers Stephen Cicirelli and Matthew Di Paoli for a conversation about their fiction writing. Stephen reads from his novel in progress and, along with Matthew, discusses topics such as inspiration, character development, point of view, and the tactical differences between novels and short stories.
Short Story Today
On episode 68 of the Short Story Today podcast, Stephen talks with host Jon DiSavino:
"New Jersey author Stephen Cicirelli has a penchant for philosophy--and it shows up in his stories in surprising ways. But there's nothing academic about them. They vibrate with energy, often weaving sorrow with humor. We read his story 'Quitting,' about an experiment in free will that goes awry."

My new story "Saints" is out in @baltimorereview! This was a very personal story to write, and I appreciate everyone, including some workshop students, who gave me feedback. Also, big thanks to Barbara Westwood Diehl, senior editor at the review, for believing in this one. I took some writing $ and, for the first time in maybe a year, bought some books. At this point, I think I own everything Vernard Eller ever published. It's criminal that all his books are out of print. #bookstagram #booklover #booktok #readersofinstagram #readersofig #bookworm #reading #booksofinstagram #booksofig #writingcommunity #writerlife #writersofinstagram #writersofig

Friday, April 5 was the 30th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. If he were still alive, he'd be 57. His was music I loved growing up and still love. Nirvana's songs, like so few things from the Nineties, still hold up today. "Come As You Are," Michael Azerrad's fantastic biography of the band, was published before Kurt's suicide. In the book, Kurt describes his generation as being led to believe "they missed out on all the best times" (221). According to Azerrad, Kurt always felt like he was discovering things too late. When he got into the Beatles, he said, they "had been broken up for years and I didn't know it." It was the same for Led Zeppelin. Like Cobain, one of the characters in my book discovers Nirvana's music "too late," after Kurt has already died. Here's a snippet of a snippet of the book which I read last month @boontoncoffee. Hope it brings back some good memories... #writerscommunity #writersnetwork #writerlife #writersofig #writerscorner #writersofinstagram #writerslife #writerssupportingwriters
